Charles Franklin Parrott, Sr.

Charles Franklin Parrott, Sr., age 80, died peacefully at his home on Friday, April 7, 2017.

A native of Halifax County, Charles was the son of the late Joseph Alderman and Sophie Jordan Parrott. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Joanna Goff Parrott and great-grandson, Franklin Brantley Parrott.

A graduate of Roanoke Rapids High School and the Newport News Apprenticeship School, Charles spent his early career working in the shipbuilding industry before returning to Roanoke Rapids. For the remainder of his career he worked as a power equipment salesman in the family-owned business. He loved retirement and the opportunity it afforded to spend time with his wife, family, and friends. Charles, a long-time member of Rosemary Baptist Church, spent many years in the ‘sound room’ working as the audio/visual technician.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, JoAnn Houston Parrott, his sons, Charles Franklin “Chuck” Parrott, Jr. of Wilmington, William “W.J.” Parrott, Sr. and his wife, Tammie of Roanoke Rapids, and Christopher “Chris” Parrott of Roanoke Rapids; his sister JoAnn Cameron of Roanoke Rapids; grandchildren Kenneth “K.C.” Parrott, Ashlie King and husband, Jonathan, Trinity Cullom, Bridgette Parrott, Brianna Parrott and Joseph Parrott; one great grandson Bryson Buckner and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at 2:30 PM at Rosemary Baptist Church with Dr. Layne Wallace and Rev. Tom Bodkin officiating.

Interment will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.

The family will receive friends Monday, April 10, 2017 from 7:00-8:30 PM at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services.

The family would like to thank the staff of Community Home Care and Hospice of Roanoke Rapids for their loving compassion and assistance during the last several months.
